Converting from v2.1(c/d) CNet Who to v2.51 CNet Who README! by Dotoran!
============================================================================
This file outlines the steps involved in upgrading your present version
of CNet Who into the new 2.51 version.
If this is your FIRST time using CNet Who, or the version of CNet Who you
are presently using is a version OLDER than the 2.1 version, you will need
to install this mod for the first time. (If using an older version, you'll
need to purge your system of the old CNet Who files. This means deleting the
who/ directory from your pfiles directory. You will also need to refer to
the step outlined below which deals with changing your BBSTEXT file). Refer
to the WHO_README! file for the steps involved in installing this program
for the first time.
If you are still reading this file, it is assumed that you are running a
version of CNet Who in the 2.x series (2.1, 2.1c, or 2.1d). If so, follow
these steps to convert and upgrade to this NEW version 2.51:
1: If you haven't already done so, copy over ALL FILES contained in the WHO/
directory of this archive into your PRESENT pfiles:who/ directory. You
should OVERWRITE all existing files with the NEWER ones located in this
newer archive.
NOTE: Do NOT copy the "IdlePorts" file found in this archive into YOUR
pfiles:who/ directory, else all your customized Idle Port Banners
will be lost. No changes were made to the format of this file, so
just leave your present version file where it is!
2: You should now run the ARexx command file "Convert_21_250" from within
CNet proper. (Either using an ARexx RUN command, or by adding directly
into your pfiles section for YOUR USE ONLY).
This file will update your "Config.data" file, as well as moving any
existing banners, glimpse, or history files into the appropriate user's
uucp mail directory(their normal MAIL directory inside mail:users/).
When the process is completed, the internal Banners/, Glimpses/ and
Histories/ directories will be DELETED from your pfiles:who/ directory.
If you chose to add the convert file directly into your pfiles section,
you can now DELETE the file from the pfiles section(but leave it on the
disk, just in case!) :-)
3: No changes are needed to be made to your BBSMENU file over previous Who
versions, so as long as you have the W, WH, and WHO commands defined, no
additional work is needed in that file.
4: Changes WILL NEED to be made to your BBSTEXT file, so load that into a
text editor of choice and make the following changes:
Locate Line 62, which looks like this:
\n1@ Cleared for logon\n1{#0pfiles:Who/Loader 1}
============^==========
|
This underlined section of code was added by you when installing one of
the earlier versions of CNet Who, however a slight change needs to be
made to this line. You should REMOVE the " 1" (space 1) from within this
coding, so the finished line looks like this:
\n1@ Cleared for logon\n1{#0pfiles:Who/Loader}
| | |
`---- Control-Y's ----' `---> A Control-Q character.
Now locate Line 99, which looks like this:
@ Logoff complete\n1{#0pfiles:Who/Loader 0}
============^==========
|
This underlined section, again added during a previous installation, will
need to be REMOVED ENTIRELY from the line, so it reverts back to this:
@ Logoff complete\n1
|
`--> Control-Y character.
NOTE: Numerous other programs like to use these lines for there loading,
so don't be surprised if you find other MCI {# } commands at the
ENDS of these lines. Just REMOVE the underlined section of coding
above, and leave anything else you may find on that line intact.
5: You may wish to modify the three files found in the "pfiles:who/" path
starting with the _ (underscore). These are the DEFAULT versions for the
Banners, Glimpse and History files that will be used by the program. I've
tried to make them as GENERIC as possible, but you may wish to further
modify them.
Provided you allow for multiple who banners, the _Banners file will be
copied directly into a user's mailbox the first time they use a Who
module, however the default GLIMPSE and HISTORY files will NOT be copied
into their mailboxes, unless they choose to create one of their own. The
default versions WILL, however, be used on the LONG WHO display screen if
it is found that a user does not have one of their own set up. This was
done as a means of getting the users to create ones of their own.
6: You should now refer to the WHO_README! file for info pertaining to the
two new TOGGLE settings you can use in each WHO module. Just search out
the text "info on toggle switches" and you'll find your way there.
7: That's It! Welcome to 2.51! Enjoy!
